Containers

What is a shipping container?

A shipping container is a modular, stackable steel box. Primarily designed for intermodal freight transport, the shipping container or intermodal container is built for durability. As the name suggests, the intermodal container serves as a means to transport goods by boat, train or truck. Entirely made from corrosion weathering steel also known as Cor-tan steel it creates a self-protecting rust-coloured coating resistant to temperature changes and corrosion. In transit, the container carries a heavy load, stacked high and subject to harsh conditions. However, its contents remain safe and dry throughout the journey. Equipped with air vents reduce condensation and humidity on the inside, cargo doors outfitted with a locking mechanism secure its contents and finally forklift pockets allow for easy handling rendering the container mobile and stackable.

New Containers

A new or one-trip container is manufactured overseas, loaded with goods, put on a ship to then be sold on the resale market at its destination. Since it has only been used for one-trip by ship, a new container is in excellent condition. However it may have a few minor dents and scratches from its initial trip. Nevertheless, if the aesthetics of the container is the deciding factor of your purchase, we suggest that you opt to buy a new one-trip container. The new one-trip container is equipped with a lock-box.

Used Containers

A used container is weatherproof and made entirely of weathering steel also called cor-ten steel. What appears to be surface rust is in fact a self-protective rust-colored coating that resists temperature changes and corrosion. This steel develops through time a layer protecting the surface, which regenerates continuously when subjected to the influence of the weather. In spite of minor dents and surface rust being common with used containers, we only sell structurally sound and impermeable used containers. The beams, doors, locking device, door seals and hinges are weatherproof and in good condition. Extensive manipulation, handling and transportation expose a container to structural risk of damage. Once the container reaches its final storage destination, the possibility of damage, wear and tear reduces greatly.

Many of our used containers are brown, red or rust colored. In part, this is due to the resemblance between the self-protective brown rust-colored barrier and the used container paint color. This similarity between the colors give the container a cleaner and more uniform appearance.

Sizes and Types to choose from:

The standard sized containers are 8 feet 6 inches high and available in 10 feet, 20 feet & 40 feet lengths. High-cube containers are 9’6” high, and are available in 20 feet, 40 feet, 45 feet and 53 feet lengths.

Regular containers:

A regular container has a set of cargo doors at one. It is entirely made of weathering CORTEN steel, marine grade plywood flooring and is impermeable. It is equipped with air vents, which reduces condensation and humidity inside. Convenient forklift pockets for easy handling, rendering it mobile and stackable.
